INFORMATION ABOUT THE SITE OF SENSES PROJECT
The Site of Senses Project
was born in 2007, when a small manufacturer of educational equipment for children
asked to provide a program for the Janesville (Wisconsin) Kiwanis Club. He had
a new product under development, for which he knew there was a great need. The
problem was that the institutions (mostly public school systems) and the families
of severely
sight impaired or blind, infants and children with multiple handicaps, lacked
the funds to purchase the new product.
After
the program, the club's board appointed a committee to check on the claims made
by the speaker, and determine if this was an unmet need in our community.
What
we learned is that the children who can benefit from the Site of Senses device
are some of the most aflicted of all handicapped children, and that a great
many of them respond well to learning about their enviornment with the
equipment.
